Good morning boys and girls! Last week, I read 7 chapters of Start Your Own Corporation by Sutton, and here are my biggest takeaways:

• Never operate as a Sole Proprietorship or General Partnership – you’re personally liable for everything that goes wrong. Bad idea!

• Choosing the right business entity (C Corp, S Corp, LLC, LP) protects your personal assets and helps you save on taxes.

• LLCs offer flexibility in management and profit allocation—perfect for businesses with different roles and investment structures.

• S Corps can save you money on payroll taxes since owners only pay taxes on their salary, not total business income.

• LLCs come with trade-offs – owners pay self-employment taxes on all profits, may face limited lifespan in some states, and have fewer options for raising capital compared to S Corps.

• Know your needs before setting up a business entity—what works for one business might not be best for yours.
